The two commanders from the Battle of Marianna will rejoin the living on Tuesday night, September 23rd. Brig. Gen. Alexander Asboth (US) and Col. A.B Montgomery (CS) will face each other in a moderated debate that promises to be a remarkable event.

The event will start the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Marianna, a small but bloody and significant action fought in the streets of the Florida city on September 27, 1864. The Debate of the Commanders is being hosted by and will take place at the Jackson County Public Library at 2929 Green Street in Marianna.

Moderated by Dale Cox, the author of the critically-acclaimed book on the Battle of Marianna, the debate will offer Gen. Asboth and Col. Montgomery the chance to face each other once again almost150 years to the date that they commanded batting forces at Marianna.

It will be a fascinating opportunity to part the mists of time and hear from the two men that held the fate of Northwest Florida in their hands during the fall of 1864. The first Debate of the Commanders in Marianna will be free to attend.
